New Albany Schools

In the early 1900s, there were one room school houses and our Great-Grandmother Flossie Noblitt, at 19 years of age, was a teacher in a one room school house in Georgetown, Indiana.

Students moved to Pine View when they started fourth grade. The Cardinal was their mascot.

East Spring Street Elementary

Originally constructed in 1868. was torn down in 1938 and a new school, which is still standing, was built.

It was renamed Lucille Reisz Elementary School in honor of the former Principal Lucille Reisz.

Reisz closed as an elementary school in 1991. At one time it as the Adut Education Department and then the Floyd Community Corrections Office which provided diversion from prison and county jail for non-violent crimes.

Students went through part of the 3rd grade and then they moved to Jacobs Chael for the rest of the 3rd through 6th Grade.

At some point it changed back to 1st through 6th.

Green Valley

Green Valley Elementary School was established in 1961,

It was torn down in 2022 and a new more modern school was built.

Griffin Street 2

Griffin Street was the Annex for Lillian Emery. It was established in 1939.

1 Class of 5th graders remained at Lillian Emery and the other Class of 5th graders went to Griffin Street along with both Classes of 6th Graders.

Jacobs Chapel 2

Jacob's Chapel was the Annex for Grant Line Elementary. Part of the 3rd Graders went here along with all of the 5th and 6th Graders.

Mrs. Zelda Everbach taught here at one point.

Lillian Emery

Lillian Emery Elementary School

Lillian Emery was built between 1920-1920.

1st through 1 Class of 5th Graders went to Lillian Emery and the other Class of 5th Graders and 6th Graders went to the Griffin Street Annex.

In _______ the school was torn down and a new school was built _____.

It changed from having grade school students to being a school for Head Start.
